HIV-1 Genetic Variability and Clinical Implications
Despite advances in antiretroviral therapy that have revolutionized HIV disease management, effective control of the HIV infection pandemic remains elusive. Beyond the classic non-B endemic areas, HIV-1 non-B subtype infections are sharply increasing in previous subtype B homogeneous areas such as Europe and North America. As already known, several studies have shown that, among non-B subtypes,...
متن کاملClinical implications of HIV-1 minority variants.
Technologic advances in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) sequencing have revolutionized the study of antiretroviral drug resistance and are increasingly moving from the laboratory to clinical practice. These techniques are able to detect HIV-1 drug resistance mutations present at low frequencies not detectable by current HIV-1 genotyping assays. For a number of commonly used antiretr...
متن کاملGenetic variability in response to clopidogrel therapy: clinical implications.
In the past few years, it has been realized that cardiovascular events under dual antiplatelet therapy (DAPT) might be associated with a poor response to clopidogrel. Based on different platelet function assays, 20–25% of clopidogrel-treated patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary stenting have been defined as poor responders and were prone to an increased risk...
متن کاملGenetic Variability of HIV-1 for Drug Resistance Assay Development.
A hybridization-based point-of-care (POC) assay for HIV-1 drug resistance would be useful in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) where resistance testing is not routinely available. The major obstacle in developing such an assay is the extreme genetic variability of HIV-1. We analyzed 27,203 reverse transcriptase (RT) sequences from the Stanford HIV Drug Resistance Database originating fro...
متن کاملGenetic Variability of Hiv-1 Isolates from Minas Gerais, Brazil
We report results of nucleotide sequencing and phylogenetic analysis of the env gene of 11 HIV-1 isolates, in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Ten isolates belonged to HIV-1 subtype B and one was a probable B/F mosaic. This putative B/F recombinant is similar but not identical in its nucleotide sequence to other B/F mosaics described in Brazil.
